Who Are the Friends?

The Friends of the Library (FOL) is a public non-profit organization that welcomes everyone who is interested in supporting the local library.

What Is the Mission?

The group's mission is

"to focus public attention on library services, facilities, and needs; to assist the library Board and staff in developing and sponsoring programs of educational, cultural, or recreational value for Friends and the community at large; and to develop fund-raising projects for the library..."

How Do the Friends Help?

Common fund-raising activities include used book sales twice a year; and the sale of tote bags, and "I Love the Library" carrying bags that are available at the library year-round.

How Is the Money Used?

Although independent of the library system, the Friends communicate with library staff to pinpoint needs. These needs are expected to grow as library funding continues to be pinched.

The Marietta Friends have provided the Marietta Branch with:

New shelving

Children's reading programs

A microfilm reader for the History and Genealogy Department

Rest and relaxation center, a parachute, and parachute book for Youth Services

Start-up of a library trust fund through the Marietta Community Foundation

and much more

In the past, we have funded purchases valued between $5,000 and $6,000 for the Marietta Branch each year.

Annual memberships ($12 single; $25 family) can be purchased at any book sale, at the Marietta Library circulation desk or by filling out this printable form.
